strsignal(3scl)						       strsignal(3scl)

NAME
       strsignal - obtains a text description of a signal

LIBRARY
       SCL Miscellaneous Library (libsolmisc.so, libsolmisc.a)

SYNOPSIS
       #include <string.h>

       char *strsignal(int sig);

PARAMETERS
       Specifies the signal number for which a description is returned

DESCRIPTION
       The strsignal() function takes a signal number, passed as the sig
       parameter, and returns a pointer to a character string that describes
       the signal. The returned string must not be overwritten.

SCL IMPLEMENTATION NOTES
       The text message describing the signal may be different from that
       returned by Solaris.

       The supported signals reflect that of Tru64 UNIX rather than Solaris as
       some of the signals defined on Solaris are not implemented by Tru64
       UNIX. Examine sys/signal.h to determine the signals that are supported.

       The signal numbers defined for a given name (for example, SIGUSR1) may
       differ between Tru64 UNIX and Solaris, therefore use of symbolic names
       within source code is strongly recommended.

RETURN VALUES
       The strsignal() function returns a pointer to a character string if the
       sig parameter contains a valid signal number, otherwise it returns
       NULL.
