PODD(1M) Impressario PODD(1M)

NAME
podd - Printer Object Database (POD) server

SYNOPSIS
     /usr/etc/podd [-d] [-l lifetime]

DESCRIPTION
podd is the server for programs using the Printer Object Database
library, libpod(3), to obtain remote printer information.

podd is an RPC based server that is started by inetd(1M).	When a libpod
standard function is called to provide information about a remote
printer, the function makes an RPC call to the podd server on the remote
system. The server then issues the appropriate libpod local function call
to obtain the requested information and returns it to the RPC client.

inetd listens for libpod RPC calls for the program number specified by
"sgi_pod" in the /etc/rpc file. When a request is made, podd is started
by inetd as specified by the file /etc/inetd.conf.

OPTIONS
The following command-line options may be specified:

-d Runs the server in debugging mode. Debugging information will be
	  sent to the console.

     -l lifetime
Specifies that the server should terminate after lifetime seconds of
inactivity. By default lifetime is 300 seconds (5 minutes).

DIAGNOSTICS
Normal server operation produces no diagnostic output. If an error
occurs, error messages will be written to standard error. Debugging
information will be written to /dev/console if the -d option is
     specified.

FILES
     /etc/rpc RPC program number database
     /etc/inetd.conf inetd configuration file
