NAME
fcntl - control open file descriptors

       ioctl - control devices

SYS$GETDVI - Get device and channel information

SYS$GETDVIW - Get device and channel information and wait

EXPLAINATION
The Digital UNIX fcntl and ioctl system calls provides functionality
similar to the OpenVMS SYS$GETDVI system service. The fcntl	system
call can return the status flags for the descriptor, the asynchronous
I/O owner for a descriptor, or any locks on a file descriptor. The
ioctl system call can return device specific information. Requests for
ioctl system calls are unique to the device in question. Tty	device
information is documented in the tty(7) man page. Socket device inforā€
mation is in the networking(7) manual page. The fcntl and ioctl system
       calls complete synchronously.
